Filing your KRA return with a P9 form
Employed? You can't file nil. Here's how to file using the P9 your employer gives you.
Need help with this KRA task?
Prefer to do it yourself? Follow the guide below.

Your employer already deducts PAYE. Filing your return just confirms the numbers on your P9 match what KRA has. The deadline is 30th June every year.
What you need
- Your P9 form from your employer
- Your KRA PIN and iTax password
- Any insurance or mortgage relief papers, if you have them
Steps
- 1Log in to iTax.
- 2Go to Returns, then File Return, and choose Income Tax – Resident Individual.
- 3Use the employment income option; iTax often pre-fills it from your employer's records.
- 4Check the figures against your P9.
- 5Submit and download the receipt.
Tip: If the pre-filled figures don't match your P9, don't submit. Ask your employer's HR first. Contact Cyber Kenya on WhatsApp for the current assistance fee.
